MEDICAL CEREMONIES

Ayahuasca ceremonies in Our Cultural Center

The Noya Rao Live Association has a Cultural Centre where we teach the young people of the community to follow the path of Ancestral medicine of all our grandparents grandparents, not only that we continue to cultivate preserving from the root our tradition.

This is why we also offer Ayahuasca ceremonies in Our Cultural Centre where we have been working for 10 years and the main objective is to heal the people of the world that we have been doing for years.

  • Herbal teas ( chamomile, mint, lavender etc.)
  • Use herbs for cooking ( basil, oregano, etc.)

Reduce Sugar, Salt as much as you can

Food to avoid:

  • Fat and deep fried food
  • Red meats ( beef, veal, lamb)
  • Pork
  • Hot spices, Garlic, Onion
  • Caffeine ( let me know in advance if you get headaches because of the lack of caffeine) Please no tylenol, advil or any other painkiller close to the ceremony.
  • Dairy products
  • No Citrus the day of the ceremony ( orange, lime, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine)
  • Food or drinks containing Tyramine: Tyramine is an amino acid that helps regulate blood pressure. It occurs naturally in the body, and it’s found in certain foods. Ayahuasca is a MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor) which blocks the monoamine oxidase, which is an enzyme that breaks down excess tyramine in the body.

If you take an MAOI and you eat high-tyramine foods, tyramine can quickly reach dangerous levels. This can cause a serious spike in blood pressure and require emergency treatment.

Avoid consuming foods that are high in tyramine if you take an MAOI. We ask that you follow the tyramine restriction diet at least 3 days before ceremonies and 3 days after the ceremonies.

Examples of foods high in tyramine include:

  • Strong or aged cheeses, such as aged cheddar, Swiss and Parmesan; blue cheeses such as Stilton and Gorgonzola; and Camembert. Cheeses made from pasteurised milk are less likely to contain high levels of tyramine — for example, American cheese, cottage cheese, ricotta, farmer cheese and cream cheese.
  • Cured meats, which are meats treated with salt and nitrate or nitrite, such as dry-type summer sausages, pepperoni and salami.
  • Smoked or processed meats, such as hot dogs, bologna, bacon, corned beef or smoked fish.
  • Pickled or fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, kimchi, caviar, tofu or pickles.
  • Sauces, such as soy sauce, shrimp sauce, fish sauce, miso and teriyaki sauce.
  • Soybeans and soybean products.
  • Snow peas, broad beans (fava beans) and their pods.
  • Dried or overripe fruits, such as raisins or prunes, or overripe bananas or avocados.
  • Meat tenderizers or meat prepared with tenderizers.
  • Yeast-extract spreads, such as Marmite, brewer’s yeast or sourdough bread.
  • Alcoholic beverages, such as beer — especially tap or homebrewed beer — red wine, sherry and liqueurs.
  • Combination foods that contain any of the above ingredients. ● Improperly stored foods or spoiled foods. While you’re taking an MAOI, it is recommended eating only fresh foods — not leftovers or foods past their freshness dates.

Beverages with caffeine also may contain tyramine:

  • Excess sugar, and excess salt. We are not asking to completely avoid salt and sugar, but we ask you to reduce as much as possible the salt and sugar
  • No spicy hot food

It is important to follow your diet, but do not fast as you will need energy.

Be rested and have a good night sleep the previous night

Depending on what time the ceremony will start, have your last SOLID meal 5 hours before the ceremony (so by the time we drink the Ayahuasca your digestion is done), but continue hydrating with water, coconut water, herbal teas.

Marijuana and Cannabis:

Since Marijuana and Cannabis has become very popular in the last couple of years, we are observing the interaction of marijuana and cannabis with Ayahuasca.

If you are taking antibiotics, medications for arterial pressure, diabetes, infections, analgesics, antifungal, antidepressants, sleeping pills, anti-convulsive, anti anxiety, painkillers, amphetamines, antipsychotics medications, etc. we need to know in advance ( medical – health form). Some medications have to be stopped for a few hours, some for a few days and some others for a few weeks and some are contraindicated to taking Ayahuasca.
